Massy Stores Transforming Communities through Forces for Good
2023 marked a significant milestone for the Massy Group – the celebration of its centennial year. 100 years, can you believe it! What an achievement for us as a company, which stands as a testament to our resilience and commitment to the communities we serve. For an entire century, we have been privileged to serve our customers and we’re so thankful for your unwavering support and trust as you have travelled this journey with us! With a renewed vigour and a fresh vision, the Massy Forces for Good initiative was launched.
Forces for Good is a specially crafted initiative designed to give our employees a voice in how and where we can positively impact our communities. Through this initiative our employees across the group were asked to go out into their communities and select personally meaningful projects being done by social impact organizations, to give them the chance to win one of the Forces for Good grants valued at US $10K. Once nominated, each of these projects were voted on and the winners determined.
Now as with everything we do, the causes had to align with our values, so all nominations had to subscribe to at least one of the following 5 project categories: Food Security, Education, Healthy Living, Small Business or Sustainable Ways of Working.
We, at Massy Stores have always been committed to serving our communities, it’s literally our motto ‘Our Family Serving your Family’ and with 2023 being the Massy Group’s centennial year we were given the greatest opportunity to give back yet! Continuing our practice of serving and giving back to our communities, we set out to find meaningful causes that would truly benefit from these grants that were up for grabs.
Our Massy Stores Brentwood team surpassed any expectations of the level of commitment that would be put into this initiative. This team went out into the Chaguanas and environs area and met with numerous schools and organizations and eventually settled on Longdenville Sathya Sai Primary School, a non-government school run by well-wishers and helpers of the community. Brentwood Store Manager, Neela Rambharose said, “When we were thinking about who to nominate, [our internal marketing team] visited a number of schools. Then we came back to the store and talked about what is the foundation we’d like to see for the youth? What are our values? You know, our [Massy] values of love and care, growth and continuous improvement, of respect and responsibility. And this particular school stood out the most.”
From there our Brentwood team went full force, spending time with the teachers and students of Longdenville Sathya Sai to better understand their needs, further cementing that they were in fact worthy of nomination for one of the Forces for Good grants.
Through this initiative over 80 projects were nominated regionally across the group, 34 of which came from Trinidad and Tobago. Ten projects across Trinidad and Tobago were awarded grants, one of which was Longdenville Sathya Sai Primary School!
We are so proud of our Massy employees and bursting with particular pride for the employees of our very own Massy Stores Brentwood Store, they truly lived our values of ‘Love and Care’ through the hard work and investment they placed in getting Longdenville Sathya Sai awarded the Forces for Good grant. See, our people are the driving force and the backbone of our organization, they are the reason we’ve made these 100 years and the reason we’ll make another!
