Massy Stores Raises Funds for the Fight Against Breast Cancer with launch of Limited-Edition Pink Reusable Bags
For the second consecutive year, Massy Stores has launched its limited edition pink reusable bags to support the fight against cancer in Trinidad and Tobago. Pink is the internationally recognized signature colour affiliated with awareness of breast cancer – a disease which has deeply impacted the lives of many women, and men, in Trinidad and Tobago. Massy Stores has pledged to make a donation to the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society (TTCS) for every pink bag sold in the month of October.
“Last year, with the unwavering support from our customers, we were able to raise around $140,000 to give back to the TTCS who used the funds to purchase an ultrasound machine, along with other corporate partners. That’s the power of personal action! The simple act of purchasing the pink bag produced a very tangible result in the fight against cancer. We all know early detection is key for the survival of women. Many women serve as the heads of households and we want to play a part in ensuring that they can continue to live full lives,” commented Roxane de Freitas, CEO, Massy Stores.
“In addition to mobilizing support for the TTCS, Massy Stores plays an essential role in helping people live healthier lifestyles through the quality of food that we sell and promoting environmental protection with our reusable bags. These initiatives are part of our holistic approach in creating a healthier population” she added.
Commenting on the partnership with Massy Stores, Chairwoman of the TTCS, Dr. Asante Le Blanc gave some insight on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the institution and its ability to support men and women of Trinidad and Tobago when it comes to Cancer Education, Advocacy, Screening and Palliative care.
“Over the last two years, cancer victims who are among our country’s most vulnerable, faced many challenges. Cancer has not been deferred by the pandemic, therefore we need to adapt to the environment and find new ways of providing support for this high-risk community as well as continued promotion of healthier lifestyles and screening to allow for early detection. We have to continue to meet the challenges and continue to provide health equity for all in Trinidad and Tobago, when it comes to screening and support of Cancer patients, survivors and their families and caregivers.”
The limited-edition pink bags will be sold at $10.00 per bag at all Massy Stores locations until October 31, 2021.
